Born in Denmark, Dorte Nielsen studied at The Graphic Arts Institute of Denmark and later at The School of Communication Arts in London. For most of the 90’s she worked as an Art Director in London. Her advertising work there won her recognition at the Cannes International Advertising Festival, D&AD, the British Television Awards, Epica, London International Advetising Awards, the Campaign Poster Awards among others.

Since moving back to Denmark Dorte has been teaching creativity and creative thinking at the Danish School of Media and Journalism, were she is a head of department and a course leader of ”Creative Communication” a BA education for Art Directors and conceptual thinkers.

Dorte is the author of several books. Idébogen (The Idea Book) – tools and techniques for concept and idea generation, 2001; Inspired – how creative people think work and find inspiration, 2005; Grundbog for Art Director’s (The Art Director’s Handbook) – rules to follow or break, 2009, and several articles on creative thinking.

Dorte also works as a creativity consultant for businesses, offering fully tailor-made Creative Problem Solving workshops, training and facilitation.

In recent years Dorte also held the position of Chairman of Creative Circle, the Danish society for the creative industries, representing Art Directors, Copywriters, Strategists, Photographers, Film Directors, Graphic Designers, Digital Designers and Illustrators with the collective aim of raising the level of creativity in Denmark. Creative Circle holds the biggest Creative Award Show in Scandinavia, celebrating creative excellence. Creative Circle also arranges lectures, conferences, meeting and other activities.
